FAQs

Q: What color is this product supposed to be?

A: The Vitamin C Serum can be a light milky serum to a light gold, and that indicates that the product is fresh. If it turns orange or brown, that means the product has oxidized, and while not dangerous to use, is not going to provide the best results.

Q: Once the serum has been opened, how long will it stay fresh?

A: Although it is safe to use for up to 12 months after opening, we recommend to use it within 3 months of opening for best results.

Q: What is the pH of this product?

A: We target a 4.0pH, but it can vary by +/- 0.5 between batches.

Q: Can you please tell me what the recommended number of drops are?

A: We recommend using 1/2 to 1 dropperful every time, to make sure you get full face, neck, chest and back of hands coverage. That should be approximately 3-6 drops, but it’s really up to you. You can use more or less, as desired.

Q: How long I should wait before applying moisturizer after the vitamin c serum.  If applying moisturizer immediately after the serum, will it affect the effectiveness of the serum?

A: You can apply moisturizer right after applying the serum and letting it absorb (usually about 20-30 seconds). It will not negatively affect the serum to use a moisturizer.

Q: Are products stable? Should I store it in the fridge or drawer?

A: Shelf stable at normal room temperatures. I only recommend keeping this product in the fridge is if you don’t have AC and you live in a hot climate.

Q: Is it preferred to use this product in the morning or evening?

A: Morning is best, but can be used anytime and can be used twice per day, if desired.

Q: Can it be used on acne prone skin (with cystic acne)?

A: Yes, unless your doctor has said otherwise.

Q: Can it be used on sensitive skin due to previous harsh acne treatments?

A: Yes, it can be used on sensitive skin.

Q: Must sunscreen be used on top of it when used during the day?

A: No, but it’s just good practice in general to use a sunscreen. The Vitamin C Serum itself has a sun protectant effect, not an official SPF, but it prevents sun damage and mops up free radicals caused by exposure to UV rays.

Q:  I have been using your Vitamin C, E and Ferulic acid serum and love it, but have recently watched some youtube videos saying that you shouldn’t combine niacinamide with vitamin C. I’m a bit worried now, please can you help? Thanks

A: Hi there, I can’t speak to what the youtube videos say, but I know that Vitamin C has been thoroughly studied clinically and niacinamide as well, with well-known safety profiles.

Some people have been concerned that when these two ingredients combine, that they can create skin irritation or just plain cancel each other out. Probably the most thorough explanation I’ve seen is this article. http://kindofstephen.com/can-you-use-niacinamide-and-vitamin-c-ascorbic/

The writer, Stephen Alain Ko, is a cosmetics chemist, and does an excellent job of explaining the science and why it’s actually a good idea to combine Vitamin C and Niacinamide.

He also goes on to explain that when Niacinamide and Vitamin C are combined, they create a natural light yellow tint, which will look very different from a rust orange that it would take on if the vitamin C is oxidized, and therefore, ineffective.
