Eye Serum as a Primer, Baking Soda to Neutralize Peels: From our Mailbag

posted in: Peels, Q&A

Q: Hello,I recently bought Refresh Skin Therapy Peptide + Intense Eye Recovery Serum. The instruction says apply 2x a day. Which step of the skin care should this be?

Your label says that this is is a serum – a serum would be applied after the toner and before the moisturizer and sunblock. The problem is that the subsequent application of moisturizer and sunblock cause the serum to cake.

Your youtube ad says that it can also be served as a makeup primer – as a primer, it would be applied as the last step of the skin care. If this is the case, can your “serum” penetrate through the moisturizer and sunblock? Please advise. Thank you.

A: Thank you so much for your email, I really appreciate when customers contact me, since I could talk about skincare all day! This is how we recommend using our Peptide+ Eye Serum:

-First, do any cleansing, exfoliating, or toning steps. Skin is now clean and dry.
– If you use an essence or active serum, use that next. (For me, that means use the Vitamin C Serum, which is light and water-based, more similar in texture to an essence, actually.)
– Apply eye serum, allow to dry
– Follow with your normal moisturizer/sunscreen/makeup
We talk about using it as a primer, since some people with oily skin might use this instead of an eye cream. You can apply makeup directly on top, and it will make for a smooth base.
I hope that helps!

QI am interested in trying your products .. what are the full ingredients in the fruit peel and the percentage of each acid ? And which peel would be the gentlest .. the 2 percent salicylic ., the lower lactic or the fruit peel? Ty in advance .. also these peels don’t need to be neutralized with baking soda / water ?
A: We post the full ingredients on our website for all of our products (its found on the product page, under the ‘Additional information’ tab), and the Fruit Acid Peel is majority Glycolic Acid, adding up to a 15% strength. Actual percentages are a trade secret.

Fruit Acid 15% Gel Peel Ingredients: Purified Water, Natural Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic & Pyruvic Acids), Kojic Acid, Xanthan Gum.
The Salicylic 2% and the Lactic 10% would be the gentlest, but the the Salicylic one is for oily skin. If your skin is not oily, it may sting and be too drying. For gentle, I like the Lactic Acid 10%.
None of our peels require a neutralizer of any kind, including baking soda and water. Our peels can be fully neutralized with water, but we recommend using a cleanser or soap and water to remove all traces of the peel.
