Common Factors That Cause Rosacea Flare-Ups

We see you, acne rosacea. We see you.

This skin issue was actually why the Refresh Skin Therapy line was started. Founder, Joanna Shu, battled with acne rosacea problems all her life and wanted to find a natural solution once and for all.

Luckily, we were able to find natural product solutions for all skin types and a way to calm rosacea flare-ups with specific peels. However, understanding what triggers acne rosacea is equally as important.

It’s important to keep Rosacea under control, otherwise more breakouts causes more scarring and Rosacea to get worse, as the skin never truly gets a chance to heal.

Although everyone’s triggers are different, here are 3 common factors for rosacea flare-ups:

Time in the Sun

Exposure to UV rays is a very common trigger for Rosacea flare-ups, but one that is easily managed by staying out of direct sunlight, and wearing a chemical and physical block sunscreen combo. Having both the physical blocker (like soothing Zinc Oxide) as a first line of defense, and then a chemical blocker (to absorb any UVA, UVB rays that get through) are key, since they work in different ways. The result though is less redness and irritation for really sensitive skin.

Diet

Eating a poor diet with lots of caffeine, sugar, and processed foods can cause Rosacea to run wild. Grains, white sugar, and the like are considered ‘pro-inflammation’ and can make Rosacea worse. Many people report that eating a Paleo-type diet of eliminating processed foods and all grains (considered an anti-inflammatory diet) see big improvement in redness and inflammation with their Rosacea and excema (which often go hand-in-hand). Just ask Tom Brady.

Colors and Fragrance in Skincare

Not everyone will have a problem with added colors and fragrance (or preservatives) in skincare, but why take a chance? The way it looks or smells shouldn’t have any bearing on if the product works for you or not. And if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to just avoid those items, and see how your skin looks after a few weeks.

Having a trusty skincare product and being conscious of your environment can make a huge difference so that you stay way clear of Acne Rosacea.
